The new 2010 5 Series Sedan/Wagon is about to make its debut to everyone's delight. This BMW comes with technology that makes driving more fun, efficient, and easy. The trim levels include the 528i, turbo-charged 535i, and the powerful 550i. The 528i and 535i each have a 3.0-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline 6-cylinder engine and either rear wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel-drive, which feeds power to both axles as the situation requires and automatically adapts to the terrain you are driving on. The 550i features a 360 hp 4.8-liter, 32-valve V-8 engine coupled with rear wheel drive. 6-speed manual transmission and direct ignition come standard on all 5 Series trims.
The wonderful assortment of handling and suspenions features add to the 5 Series' appeal. "The 5-Series' ride and handling combination is among the world's best," says Consumer Guide. Aluminum front and rear subframes, double-pivot front suspension, and 4-link integral rear suspension all cut down on vehicle weight. The 5 Series also comes with twin-tube gas-pressure shock aborbers, front and rear anti-roll stabilizer bars, and dynamic stability control which can recognize the onset of a skid and quickly stabilizes the vehicle. Start-off Assistant, Brake Fade Compensation, Brake Stand-by, Brake Drying, and Dynamic Traction Control also come standard. Dynamic Traction Control ensures the optimum wheel traction by increasing slip at the drive wheels. The brakes are 4-wheel ventilated anti-lock disc brakes with Dynamic Brake Control and the steering is vehicle-speed-sensitive variable-assist variable-ratio power steering. Dynamic Brake Control improves brake force in emergency "panic stop" situations.
The beautiful exterior of the 5 Series comes equipped with halogen free-form fog lights, power adjustable, heated, side-view mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, stylish chrome line exterior trim, metallic paint, and automatic headlight control, which means that your headlights will come on automatically when it gets dark enough outside.
The audio system will have everyone moving with an anti-theft AM/FM stereo, a CD player, an auxiliary audio input, 10 speakers, Auto-Store, an FM diversity antenna system, and MP3 capabilities. The seating features for the new 5 Series include 10-way power front seats with power head restraints and a memory system for the driver's seat, side-view mirrors, and steering wheel position. A dual center console compartment with a phone handset holder also comes standard.
As usual, the new 5 Series is bursting with convenient features that will make driver and passengers happy. You'll enjoy automatic climate control with automatic air recirculation, a micro-filter ventilation system (filter is replaceable), automatic tilt-down of the passenger's side-view mirror when the vehicle is in reverse, and a power tilt and telescopic steering wheel with automatic tilt-up. You'll also appreciate power windows with opening from remote, closing from exterior lock, and an anti-trapping feature. The interior lighting features include courtesy lights with a dimming function, front map lights, and rear reading lights with separate controls. Other convenience features include dual front sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, dual front and rear cupholders, and three power outlets.
The driver controls and displays in the 5 Series are arranged logically and intuitively with the most necessary information in the driver's line of sight. Additionally, functions such as the audio system, cruise control, and Bluetooth for a cell phone can be controlled through the leather-wrapped steering wheel. The driver will also like the exterior temperature display with an alarm for freezing temperatures, vehicle and key memory, and a start/stop button. The 2010 5 Series also feature the iDrive system which allows the driver to control all kinds of different functions such as the air conditioning and navigation through just a few instruments.
Safety has always been a top priority for BMW and the new 5 Series is no exception. It comes standard with driver and front passenger air bags with dual-threshold, dual-stage deployment and a front passenger seat sensor. Front seat side-impact air bags also come standard, as does a head protection system. An impact sensor can protect you in the case of an accident by disconnecting the alternator from the battery, disconnecting the fuel pump and starter from the battery, turning on the hazard lights, turning on the interior lights and unlocking the doors. Additonally, the new 5 Series features Coded Driveaway Protection which constantly changes the electronic key/ignition code to prevent the engine from starting without the right key.
